Former *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake releases a new song called "Selfish" about being selfish about his partner Jessica Biel, but Britney Spears fans collectively decided that his song shouldn't be above Spears' song that was released in 2011. However both fanbases are seemingly determined to have their song higher on the charts, but there can only be one.

Spears' fans have now made her song appear on ITunes charts, but it is second place to Timberlake's. Listeners are divided with each believing that their "Selfish" should be #1. On X, the topic is trending in entertainment news.

@Captivating_BB wrote on the trending thread, "Justin Timberlake made a whole new song and advertise it to get it this far Britney Spears didn't even have to lift a finger and her old song about to reach #1."

Another listener @lootmtaylor wrote, "Justin Timberlake really thought. What a freaking loseeeeeer. Everything about him is so bland & white. Sweetie you are over. Buy Selfish by Britney Spears on iTunes!"

The trend continues as fans can see on iTunes who will take #1.

Despite not having a new single out, Britney Spears is back within the top 10 on the US iTunes list. The pop sensation's song "Selfish" shows up on the platform's list of the top songs in America as if by magic. Its unexpected and recent success isn't totally coincidental, though. Indeed, it's connected to one of her ex-boyfriend's most recent offerings.

Justin Timberlake  and Britney Spears have been one of the contentious musical couples to date.

When Spears released her memoir, The Woman In Me, last year, the romance was thrust back into the public eye. The singer said in her book that she became pregnant while they were courting.

She claims that Timberlake persuaded her to get an abortion, but if she hadn't paid attention to his worries, she would have chosen to keep the child.
