Toby Keith was a beloved country singer who had been praised by countless fans from all around the world for his talent in music and songwriting, that's why many of his peers and supporters were saddened upon finding out the news of his death.

According to Billboard, the musician passed away on February 5, 2024, after his struggles with stomach cancer, which he had been open about over the past few months prior his death. He was 62 years old.

Back in September 2023, Keith took the stage of the first-ever People's Choice Country Awards at the iconic Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee.

It was his final television performance ever and it was only fitting to invite him to the program. Because of his contribution to the country music industry, he was honored with the Country Icon Award at the ceremony.

During the awards show, Toby Keith performed his song "Don't Let the Old Man In" that he wrote himself and people became emotional during his performance.

The country legend still delivered an impressive performance and even though he was physically struggling due to his health condition, his voice remained the same, if not, even better.

While accepting the Country Icon Award, Keith started his speech with a joke, saying people never thought they'd see him wearing skinny jeans.

His tone changed and became serious, as he further added: "I want to thank the Almighty for allowing me to be here tonight. He's been riding shotgun with me for a little while now. I want to thank my beautiful family that's here. A lot of people go in and make a career like this of 30 years."

His family took to his official Instagram account to break the devastating news as they confirmed that the musician had already passed away.

"Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time," the statement reads.

Back in December, the country legend was still able to take the stage of the Park MGM in Las Vegas for his first official headlining shows after his cancer diagnosis.

Since his death, many of his peers and supporters expressed their sadness over the matter.
