"American Idol" is perhaps one of the biggest singing competition on television worldwide. It has been franchised by multiple countries already and has yielded hundreds of talented singers and performers globally.

In the United States, "American Idol" alone has produced stars like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and Fantasia, to name a few.

Now, "American Idol" season 22 started on ABC but fans are annoyed as their most dreaded part of the show has begun - the sob stories on the auditions.

'American Idol' Season 22 Auditions

Like many reality shows, producers tend to appeal to the viewers' emotional chords to elicit a huge response. Whether it was a traumatic experience at the expense of the contestant, an underdog story, a reunion one, or any other common reality television trope out there, loyal fans of any television show can spot them a mile away and many seemed to grow out of it.

Like any other reality singing format on television right now, contestants will have to go through a stringent round of auditions to showcase what they can offer to the judges.

However, most of the time, producers tend to capitalize on the contestant's story rather than on their singing abilities.

Fans Complain On 'American Idol's' 'Sob Stories'

Most "American Idol" viewers have taken to Reddit to air out their frustrations.

"I realllllly wish we didn't have to hear every single contestants sob story. It's realllly fucking annoying. Can you sing or not? The end. Rant over," a user voiced out on the platform.

Many seemed to agree with the Original Poster's thoughts.

"They produces these stories because it increases the ratings. I agree.... The stories are too much. Sometimes it seems a bit manipulative," another echoed.

"Yes I decided to end the abusive relationship with Idol. I am not watching this year. Tired of their sob stories but they never change their behaviors. Kelly Clarkson didn't have a sob story. Adam Lambert didn't have a sob story that was presented on air. This whiny bs is awful," another commented.

"I literally can't deal with the sob stories anymore. It distracts so much from what the show is actually about. I remember literally nothing about any of this past week's singers' performances because it was SO focused on the sob story," someone pointed out.
