Who is Tyla?

Tyla, born Tyla Laura Seethal, is a South African singer who was born and raised in Johannesburg.

She is the recipient of a Brits Award, Soul Music Train Award, MOBO Award, and two South American Music Awards.

"Ever since I could remember, I always gravitated toward music and dance. I loved watching artists on TV," the singer said about her roots. "I just always saw myself there."

Tyla also gave importance to the country she hails from, noting "Where I am from is everything. It is who I am. It is my sound. It is the way I dance. It is the way I talk."

Her mission as an artist is not only to make great music, she also wants to show the rest of the world what South Africa is and what it can offer.

"The music is not just music to us. It is very spiritual for us ... Good music is a part of us. Realize this," she said in an interview.

She also cites Tems, a Nigerian singer-songwriter as her inspiration and idol; and their rise to prominence is enough proof that African music is becoming appreciated and beloved globally.
