Maren Morris has always celebrated women, making her a perfect recipient of the Visionary Award at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards. Just before she accepted the award, Morris gushed about Beyonce after her well-received transition to the Country music genre for her upcoming new album, "Renaissance: Act II."

Morris has also been very outspoken about the negative side of Country music, a genre she publicly declared she had already left because of all the drama.

Maren Morris Celebrates Beyonce's Success

When asked on the red carpet what her getting-ready music was, Maren Morris admitted that she listens to Queen Bey's most recent song, "Texas Hold' Em." (via Billboard)

"Gotta represent Texas in the house," the Arlington native cheered. "That one gets me moving... She just knows how to bring it to 11 every single time."

She also gushed on the song for its historical significance, pointing out that Beyonce deserves the utmost respect for reclaiming country music to "Black people because they invented the genre is so astounding and important. So [finger snap] slay!"

Beyonce's new album is the second installation of her "Renaissance" album. The first one was more of an homage to the Dance, house, and club music that Black artists have trailblazed in the past.

Now, she's paying homage to Country music - a contested genre that the Black community has since claimed but never dominated because of the internal politics and discrimination rampant in the genre.

In the interview, Maren Morris also said that she was unsure if she could keep the title for so long.

"I have a lot of visions and delusions, so I'm glad I'm being honored for them tonight," she quipped.

Morris even performed an acoustic version of her song "Girl," honoring the song's fifth anniversary and International Women's Month.

"It really encapsulates what this evening is about," she went on to say. "Which is like, female empowerment, we're bad-ass b-ches."

Maren Morris and Country Music

In the past, Morris has publicly said multiple times that she's leaving Country music.

Morris was especially candid in her explanation when she shared her thoughts with Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show."

"I don't think it's something you can really leave, because it's a music that's in me and that I grew up doing," she confessed. "That's the music that I write, even if I've been sort of genre fluid my whole career. You can't, like, scrub the country music out."

Morris has made significant changes to her music. In a huge move, she asked for her songs not to be considered for potential nominations on the country music awards circuit.

"I couldn't do this circus anymore - feeling like l have to absorb and explain people's bad behaviors and laugh it off. I just couldn't do that after 2020 particularly. I've changed. A lot of things changed about me that year," she told the New York Times podcast.
