Toby Keith Died Before Country Music Hall of Fame Induction

Rolling Stone reports that Toby Keith will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Sadly, a day before the Hall of Fame staff will receive the names of the final inductees, Keith passed away after a long battle with stomach cancer.

Tributes poured in the music industry after Toby Keith died on Feb. 5, 2024. Eventually, his 35 Biggest Hits album topped the Billboard 200 chart a week after he passed away.

"My heart sank that Tuesday afternoon knowing that we had missed the chance to inform Toby while he was still with us, but I have no doubt that he is smiling down on us, knowing that he will always be 'as good as he once was,'" CMA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern said in a statement.

For those who do not know, Toby Keith has already been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame. Apart from being inducted at the Country Music Hall of Fame, he will also be inducted into the Modern Era Artist category.

Billboard noted that in October 2024, in a Medallion ceremony, Toby Keith will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Legendary country music singer John Anderson will also be inducted into the veteran-era artist category, joining 152 other artists who will become members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

"Each of these inductees have made an indelible impact on country music," Trahern added.

Toby Keith Cause of Death

At 62, Toby Keith succumbed to a longtime battle with stomach cancer.

"I am shattered. As great as he was in his career, he was so much greater as a dad and a husband and a Pop Pop. He was my hero," Keith's daughter, Krystal, wrote on Instagram. "I am so lucky to have had him and so grateful he got to walk me down the aisle and meet my babies."

Speaking to TMZ Sports, the former NFL quarterback Brett Favre claimed that at the end, he believed that Toby Keith was "just tired."

"He did say that to me when we had our conversation, he said, 'Brett... whatever happens, I'm okay with it.'" he told the outlet.

Favre revealed that he would call the singer every three months to check on his condition, but it was only very late when he learned that he stopped his chemotherapy treatment.
