It's been nine years since Zayn Malik departed from One Direction to pursue a solo music career, but even though he left the band before they went into an indefinite hiatus, the group still holds a special place in his heart.

According to Billboard, the singer, who is set to release a brand new album later this year, held a voice broadcast in which he revealed that he had been listening to old music from his band recently.

Coincidentally, the voice broadcast occurred precisely nine years after he announced his departure from the British boy band.

"I've been listening to a bit of One Direction music recently, reminiscing... We made some good music as a band... We were pretty good," he said.

Throughout the years, other One Direction members-Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne-went separate ways and focused on their solo careers.

Zayn Malik Wants to Collaborate With Miley Cyrus

Elsewhere in the broadcast, the musician also noted that one of the musicians that he wanted to collaborate with in the future is Miley Cyrus because of her unique voice.

"I'd like to do a collaboration with her... I think we could do something really cool together especially in line with what my new record sounds like," he said.

He later said he was available if Cyrus was one of the listeners during his voice stream and if she was interested in working on something.

Zayn Malik New Album 2024

The recent news comes after Zayn Malik announced his new album, Room Under the Stairs, his first record in three years. The latest project will be available for streaming starting on May 17.

To give fans a taste of what's to come, he released the first single, "What I Am."

As reported by Rolling Stone, Malik said that his intention in creating the album, which is being co-produced by Dave Cobb, is for listeners to fully immerse themselves in his personal life. He wanted fans to see him personally "as a human being," which also includes his ambitions and fears.

The project was written when the singer lived in Pennsylvania.

"It's raw... It's just me writing this. I didn't want anybody else to be in between me and the music and the music and the people listening to it," he added.
