In 2019, Sam Hunt faced a hurdle as he made headlines after being arrested for DUI. Today, he looks back at his wrongdoings and reveals that the experience made him a better person.

The musician sat down for an interview with Taste of Country Nights with Evan Paul and recalled being arrested in 2019 for a DUI charge, saying it was a "wake-up call" for him.

Billboard reported that the musician pleaded Guilty to his DUI charges later on and spent 48 hours in an "alternate sentencing facility."

"Well, it was a wake-up call immediately, you know, the next day. I think over time, you know, you reflect on it, you realize, you know, you learn from your mistakes," he said in the interview.

Hunt just released a new song, "Locked Up," from his latest EP of the same name. He gave details about the single, saying he made a point not to go into the details of his own story.

Sam Hunt Writes Songs That Will Relate to Fans

He wrote the song from the perspective of other people who understand and relate to the track.

"I tried to zoom it out and make it more relatable so that it feels more like it's about making a big mistake or messing up, and having your significant other stick with you through that," he added.
