Thom Yorke has started a wildfire of speculation among fans of himself and Radiohead after he posted what's either a very mysterious or very mundane photo on his Tumblr account: A turntable spinning a white 12-inch record without any distinct markings. Naturally the world freaked out and had to ponder: Was it a new solo album from the vocalist? A new Atoms for Peace LP? God help us, a new Radiohead album?!?

No one knows for sure, and normally we would add this to the "fans getting overly excited about nothing" pile, but longtime producer Nigel Godrich and the official Radiohead Tumblr account shared Yorke's post September 22, hinting at something far more relevant.

The photo also features identical album sleeves in the background, which feature a black-and-white piece of artwork. We certainly don't recognize it but we'd have to figures in this day-and-age, if it were pre-existing album art, someone would have identified it by now. It's interesting to note that his Tumblr logo features a similar design (or at least color scheme).

It seems unlikely that this is actually new Radiohead. After all, guitarist Johnny Greenwood has suggested the band has gotten back in the studio together. But then again, the band hasn't exactly been one to follow the rules. After revolutionizing record releases with In Rainbows, the band might feel that Beyoncé and U2 have stolen its thunder with their secret releases, and hence might be planning something far more mysterious.

A mystery that of course would have been ruined by Yorke's post. So we suppose it'll be a while before we find out. Yorke could just be having a laugh at our expense.
