Hope Solo was involved in a physical altercation with both her sister and her 17-year old nephew at a party in Washington state last June. The soccer goalkeeper was charged with two counts of domestic violence to which she pled not guilty. A trial is now scheduled to begin on Nov. 4 and if convicted Solo could be facing six months in jail. While awaiting trial Solo has been allowed to continue playing for the U.S. Women's team and is expected to start in the CONCACAF championship next month. The fact that Solo has been allowed to play while men facing similar charges in the NFL are being benched has certainly raised some eyebrows because of the double standard that is being presented.

Solo herself took to her Facebook page to address the charges, or more like to explain why she's not addressing them.

"While I understand that the public desires more information regarding the allegations against me, I continue to maintain my innocence against these charges. And, once all the facts come to light and the legal process is concluded, I am confident that I will be fully exonerated."

Of course Solo is hoping to have her name cleared but in the mean time, should she still be an active part of the women's soccer organization? The general public has as a whole been outraged by the behavior of several NFL players and supported their deactivation so why isn't the same being demanded in Solo's case? While we all know that violence is wrong why is it that a woman reacting with her fists makes less of an impact than a man doing the same thing? Should Solo be suspended too?
