Ozzy Osbourne, before his death at 76, made a key legal move to keep his famous name, "Prince of Darkness."

He put in for trademarks in both the US and the UK. These marks were for music online, clothes, goods, and more. In the US, the application stated he wanted rights to offer "non-downloadable pre-recorded music via a website." The UK approved his ask just before he passed, as per The Sun.

Move to Secure His Identity

Osbourne aimed to guard his name for later use, maybe to help his family. He and Sharon were married for 43 years and he spent his last days at their home in Buckinghamshire. He planned to use the name on clothes, games, and other branded items. Although the US move had not yet been okayed when he passed, it was a firm step to keep the name he had built over the years.

Osbourne got the "Prince of Darkness" name early in his days with Black Sabbath. With the trademark, he made sure he kept the rights to this name that has long been linked to his music and image.

Virtual Future for Black Sabbath?

The band also has active trademarks related to virtual reality, raising the possibility of future performances in digital form. Their filings include rights related to animation and special effects. ABBA has already used similar technology in its London-based avatar show, which debuted in 2022.

Ozzy's funeral took place in Buckinghamshire, attended by close friends and fellow musicians including Elton John, James Hetfield, Marilyn Manson, Yungblud, Rob Zombie, and Zakk Wylde. He was buried on the grounds of his family home.

Thousands gathered in Birmingham for a final tribute as his hearse traveled through the city. He had returned there for one last concert with Black Sabbath shortly before his death.

The family has kept quiet about how he died. Since 2019, Osbourne had Parkinson's and other health issues. His family said in a statement upon his passing, "He was with his family and surrounded by love."
