We knew U2 have already recorded much of their new album Songs of Experience, but we didn't know it would be shaping up this quickly.

Bassist Adam Clayton recently told Q Magazine that the follow up to September's Songs of Innocence is already "70 percent done."

''The 30 percent that we're missing I think we'll be able to generate relatively easily," he said. ''But the amount of energy it will take to refine the perspective of those songs is hard to predict.''

Clayton was quick to temper fans' expectations of a rapid release date after their last project was beamed into hundreds of millions of Apple accounts for free.

''Y'know what, depending on how long it takes to be completed, there may be a whole new delivery method invented by then ... I think we just have to wait and see," he said. ''There'll be a bit of water under the bridge before we get to that point. But yeah, I think it would be a bit predictable to do the same thing.

''And y'know, the law may have changed by then, and we'll have to find some other way of doing it.''

As previously reported, guitarist The Edge stated that four years of recording sessions meant that a follow-up album will be coming soon.

"Early on it became obvious that we were working on two separate albums," The Edge said. "The majority of the unfinished songs are worthy of becoming part of Songs of Experience and some are already as good or better then anything on Songs of Innocence. The Songs of Experience album will be released when it's ready. I hope it won't take nearly as long."

And if there's one thing U2 still excels at, it's touring. They've got one of those coming up, too.

"The tour is still in the planning stage so it's too early to describe what it will be like," says the Edge. "I think we will start small. We certainly can't get any bigger then the last tour."
