After making headlines with his questionable 9/11 remarks, it has been announced that Ozzy Osbourne will be honored with the Global Icon Award at the MTV EMAs in Glasgow, Scotland, in November.

As reported by Billboard, Osbourne shared the good news with fans via his Facebook page, writing, "MTV To Declare Ozzy "Global Icon" at the 2014 #MTVEMA on November 9th!"

Bruce Gillmer, executive vice president of talent and music programming/events at Viacom International Media Networks, also shared his thoughts on the British rock legend.

"Ozzy's impact on music and pop culture has been tremendous," Gillmer said. "For over four decades  — and counting! — he's entertained, influenced, inspired and sometimes shocked legions of die-hard fans around the globe."

Osbourne is a multiplatinum artist, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and a three-time Grammy winner. He has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide. He has just released the CD/DVD collection Memoirs of a Madman. He once starred on an MTV reality series The Osbournes (2002-05) alongside his wife and children.

Former MTV Global Icon Award honorees include Eminem, Whitney Houston, Queen and Bon Jovi.

Recently, Osbourne made headlines for remarks he later said were taken out of context.

"It was my kind of craziness, y'know," Osbourne said of the 9/11 attacks. "The day after that happened, there was f-----g nobody in New York."

He later clarified his statements, saying, "Several quotes were pulled from an interview I did for Shortlist that were taken out of context," he said in a statement via NME. "I apologise to anyone who may see these quotes and believe this is actually how I feel. Please know that I would never want to offend or hurt anyone — that was never or would ever be my intention."

Nicki Minaj is set to host and perform at the MTV EMAs with other performances by Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran.
