Chance the Rapper and The Social Experiment are hard at work on new music, and in a recent interview, the artist said he'll prove it by year's end.

A project that will highlight trumpet player Nico Segal's chops (aka Donnie Trumpet) titled Surf will be out for free before 2015, Chance told Billboard. "It's the first Social Experiment project. It's a big step for all of us all putting our heads together and letting Nico hold the reigns and carry it," he said. "There's a lot of great instrumentation. A lot of input from cool writers. I'm already saying too much."

Following the release of the project, Chance said that the plan is to hit the road on a revamped tour inspired by the Broadway version of The Lion King. "We've been really, really focused on The Lion King musical and stage design and use of props in the theater setting and trying to make a very cool musical-kinda thing," he explained. "Like musical theater. So we're working on that. It's still in the development process."

Chance and Social Experiment burst onto the scene with last year's mixtape Acid Rap. "His rhyme flow at times baldly resembles Lil Wayne's or, at other times, Eminem's; his mainstream-but-iconoclastic posture draws inspiration from Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West," Rolling Stone wrote about the release. "But on his wildly anticipated, unshakably confident second mixtape, the Chicagoan speaks in his own distinctive and eccentric voice."

During his chat with Billboard, Chance also talked about the perks of being an independent artist. "I can do whatever I want. And I've got to really flex that unlimited capability of an independent artist," he said. "I can do whatever videos I want, I can play whatever shows I want, I can release when I want, talk how I want, freely about any subject."

The rapper is currently finishing up a college tour.
