Even as a 12-year-old, New Zealand singer Lorde had a voice that could make a popular tune like the Kings of Leon hit "Use Somebody" completely her own.

New audio from a session with a local radio station in New Zealand has surfaced, and the result is another great moment in Lorde's short, but impressive history, Consequence of Sound notes. The singer strips the epic tune down to its bare essentials here, letting the band's words create a lonelier, more tender atmosphere that's frequently reserved for heartbreak at 18 rather than 12, but we all know she's wise beyond her years. Even the host has a "good Lorde" moment at the end, saying, "Well, it's a privilege to hear a voice like that."

Lorde has proven her intense music fandom before with covers like Kanye West's "Flashing Lights," Bon Iver's "Heavenly Father," James Blake's "Retrograde," Son Lux's "Easy," The Replacements's "Swingin' Party" and the Tears for Fears classic "Everybody Wants to Rule the World."

The singer recently spoke to Billboard about her gig curating the soundtrack for the upcoming Hunger Games movie. "I knew this was right for me as an artist and I felt it would be cool for my career," Lorde said. "People that see me as having a couple of hits and performing on an awards show would see that, between records, I'd committed to a pretty serious body of work."

Grace Jones, Haim, Chemical Brothers, Miguel, Charli XCX and a Kanye West remix of her tune "Yellow Flicker Beat" will all appear on the soundtrack, which is out Nov. 17 - four days before the film.
