The closer we get to E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey rolling into theaters, the more fans and critics alike seem to love speculation on whether or not it will actually work. Let's face it, trying to bring a series about BDSM to life onscreen with even an NC-17 rating is going to be a really tricky task. The film has to be raunchy or else it'll feel like a watered down version of the first book and that will leave the diehard fans wishing they didn't waste their money. At the same time, producers need to be careful that it's not so raunchy that is chases moviegoers away, so the line that everyone needs to walk is very fine.
A few weeks ago, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Jonhson were sent back to Vancouver to film some extra scenes. Re-shoots are never a good sign and while those on set tried to play it off as James wanting more footage to work with, we have also heard that the chemistry is a bit off. In order for this to work, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele (Dornan and Johnson) have got to be perfectly cast and sizzle with chemistry.
A second trailer for the film dropped yesterday and the way that it is package is no doubt intended to prove that these two generate major heat together. Supposedly, Johnson was said to appear to be a "dishrag" onscreen but that's not exactly the general feeling that this trailer gives. The question is whether or not all of the heat between Dornan and Johnson is actually packed into this trailer. It seems that many insiders are expecting Fifty Shades of Grey to fall apart so badly that the full trilogy will never make it to the big screen.
