Next week, The Colbert Report will sadly be going off the air as Stephen Colbert prepares for his new job as host of The Late Show on CBS, but he's determined to go out on top. As revealed in a tweet sent out by The New York Times writer Dave Itzkoff, Colbert's guest next Tuesday, Dec. 16, will be Kendrick Lamar. Since Lamar recently performed two songs on Saturday Night Live, let's hope that he uses his performance on The Colbert Report to debut another new song from his upcoming, highly anticipated album (or even reveal its title and release date).

Lamar's most recent album good kid, M.A.A.D city was released back in October 2012, and was acclaimed as one of the greatest rap albums of the decade. His hotly anticipated follow-up has yet to be given a title or release date, though he has released one single from it, the funky, life-affirming "i," which was recently nominated for "Best Rap Performance" and "Best Rap Song" for the 2015 Grammy Awards.

"Kendrick shook up the rap game, so anticipation for his second offering is through the roof," Nas told Complex, whose own classic debut album Illmatic is often favorably referenced in discussions of good kid, M.A.A.D. city. "Kendrick's an album guy and the album artist has a whole different kind of value. Kendrick is going to be one of the most important writers of our time; dude's a rhyming animal. Whatever he does will be appreciated, but at the same time he knows he has to bring it."
