You can't say that they haven't waited long enough: Elton John and partner David Furnish will be getting married during a ceremony in England over the weekend, according to reports from Us Weekly. The pair entered a formal civil relationship during 2005 but has been waiting for gay marriage to become legal in their homeland nonetheless. Legislation finally took effect during March that made gay marriage legal in England and Wales.

John told Matt Lauer in an interview at the time that he and Furnish would certainly pursue a marriage on top of the civil partnership.

"For this legislation to come through is joyous and we should celebrate it," he said. "We shouldn't just say, 'Oh, well, we have a civil partnership, we're not going to bother to get married.'"

The rock star and Furnish met during 1993 and have maintained a relationship for more than 20 years at this point, including adopting two sons.

Although representatives for the couple confirmed that the wedding will be taking place this weekend, they left details about when and where as to avoid a media circus. Well played. But then again the couple's 2005 civil partnership ceremony was a showstopper, reportedly costing upwards of $2 million according to People, and was attended by A-Listers Ringo Starr, Victoria Beckham and Donatella Versace.

The latter magazine suggests this weekend's events will take place at their home in Windsor.
