Fresh off of his Golden Globe win — and as of this morning, Academy Award nomination — for his song "Glory" from the movie Selma, Chicago rapper Common has dropped a new verse on Stacy Barthe's "Live for Today," which you can check out below. As its title implies, the song is about seizing the day and not waiting around for moments of greatness to come, with Common asking, "I know the world is changing / But I'm still in my mind, where the peace be?" The true highlight of the track, however, is Benny Cassette's excellent production, which is based around a killer bassline and some jazzy electric piano chords.

"Live for Today" will be included on Stacy Barthe's upcoming album BEcoming, which is executive produced by Common's "Glory" co-writer John Legend, and is set to drop March 3 through Motown Records. The album will be Barthe's debut full-length, and her first release since her 2013 EP P.S. I Love You.

Prior to her recording career, Barthe was best known as a songwriter for other artists, most notably Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus. She made her debut as a singer with her 2011 EP Sincerely Yours, Stacy Barthe.

"The reason I became an artist is because I was tired of writing songs for other artists and not getting paid for my time," Barthe told BET. "You show up to the studio, spend 12 hours, give them confidence and I'm not getting paid ... I'd rather do it for me if I'm gonna do it for free, and so I became an artist by default."
