Prince has announced that he will be headlining the 20th annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans in 2014. This isn't the first time the singer has performed at the festival. In 2004 he performed on the 20th anniversary of his hit single "Purple Rain." He has also make rounds at other major festivals, headlining this year's South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas.

Essence has been held every Fourth of July weekend since 1995, according to NOLA. The festival takes place July 3 through 6 with nightly concerts at the Louisiana Superdome and empowerment seminars during the day at a convention center nearby.

The rest of Essence's 2014 lineup should be announced in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Prince has a three-night holiday run coming up in Uncasville, Connecticut, December 27 through December 29 at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

2013 has been a big year for the pop legend, who came back into the spotlight with his backing band 3rdEYEGIRL. Most recently, he dropped the song "Da Bourgeoisie," put on two shows at his Paisley Park recording studio/home, released the video for his single "Breakfast Can Wait," a cover of the song "The Sweeter He Is" and a clip of "I Like It There."
