Lorde has released the video "Team" off her debut album Pure Heroine. The clip takes place in what appears to be a rundown city run by teenagers — taking the lyrics of the track "We live in cities you'll never see on screen" and "Living in ruins of the palace within my dreams" and translating them literally on screen. Lorde is essentially living in an world in which she is "running things" without parental guidance as young boys fight, kidnap and get rowdy on motorbikes while others lounge in a steamy, foliage-filled cave, drinking water out of gallon milk jugs.

"This video was borne from a dream I had a few months ago about teenagers in their own world, a world with hierarchies and initiations, where the boy who was second in command had acne on his face, and so did the girl who was Queen," Lorde said about the video on her Facebook page. "I dreamt about this world being so different to anything anyone had ever seen, a dark world full of tropical plants and ruins and sweat. And of this world, I dreamt about tests that didn't need to be passed in order to be allowed in: sometimes the person who loses is stronger."

The video was shot in Red Hook, Brooklyn and was directed by Young Replicant (The xx). She took to Twitter to ask her fans if they had any questions about the "Team" video. Apparently the video had crashed VEVO because so many people were viewing it. One fan asked her why the video was her favorite. She replied, "Probably the diversity of the casting. It was important to me that we cast real people with real faces. Holla acne!"
