People must have forgotten about Missy Elliott. After seeing her she perform parts of "Get Ur Freak On" and "Work It" during Katy Perry's halftime performance at the Super Bowl last night, intrigued listeners and fans alike to hit Spotify to hear some more. Streams of Missy's music increased by 646 percent, an astonishing amount considering Perry's streams only increased by 85 percent and Lenny Kravitz's popped up 103 percent. Some people liked the tunes so much that they went over to iTunes and purchased a few tracks, HotNewHipHop notes.

While Perry's performance as a whole was the takeaway, Missy's brief appearance elevated the show to another level. The rapper thought it was funny that she was "blowing up," likening her spike in popularity to that of Paul McCartney when some Kanye West fans thought he was a new artist.

It's understandable if some people forgot about Missy — her last album, The Cookbook, came out a decade ago. The effort made it to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and one on the Top Rap Albums charts. Singles from the album included "Lose Control," "Teary Eyed" and "We Run This."

"The best tracks, including the techno-fied, Ciara-spiced single 'Lose Control,' tend to be produced by Elliott herself; the worst moments (the dire faux crunk of 'Click Clack') arrive when she resorts to following trends. But Elliott does succeed in getting her freak on with some of her new collaborators," Rolling Stone wrote.
