Courtney B. Vance has just signed on the dotted line to portray Johnnie Cochran in American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson. Ryan Murphy announced last year that ACS will mirror his mega-successful American Horror Story in that it will focus on telling one complete story per season. Since the O.J. Simpson trial is still often referred to as the "trial of the century," there is probably no better starting place for Murphy than with this case. Casting Vance may be one of the most brilliant moves that the popular director/producer has ever made.

Vance spent years working on Law & Order: Criminal Intent as ADA Abe Carver and proved in nearly episode that he knows his way around a court room, even if it is fictional. Viewers can expect Vance to completely throw down in his portrayal of Cochran, now let's hope the rest of the cast can keep up.

John Travolta has been cast as Robert Shapiro, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian and Simpson will be portrayed by Cuba Gooding Jr.

The 10-episode first season of ACS will examine the O.J. Simpson trial as told from the perspective of the lawyers. It is poised to explore the chaotic, behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuverings on both sides of the court. It will also demonstrate how a combination of things ultimately gave jurors what they needed: reasonable doubt.

ACS is reportedly scheduled to begin filming in Los Angeles within the next few months.

What are your thoughts on this new series so far? How do you think the casting is shaping up so far? Vance will make a fabulous Cochran, but can Travolta pull off Shapiro? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
