When Joan Rivers died unexpectedly and under suspicious circumstances in September, everyone wondered how her daughter Melissa Rivers would cope. She has spent most of her time out of the spotlight, and while Melissa has decided to move forward with a huge malpractice suit, she has also decided to do something productive. Joan was an iconic comedienne with millions of fans, so her daughter has decided to put together a tribute book filled with stories intended to make readers laugh that will be released in May.

According to a report by People magazine, an announcement about this new project was made yesterday, Feb. 10.

"In The Book of Joan: Tales of Mirth, Mischief, and Manipulation, Melissa Rivers will share funny, poignant and irreverent observations, thoughts and tales about the woman who raised her," her publisher, Crown Archetype, announced Wednesday, Feb. 11.

"In our family we always believed that laughter was the best medicine," Melissa said. "I wanted to write a book that would make my mother laugh. I hope it makes you laugh, too."

This seems like a project that was likely pretty cathartic for Melissa, as it allowed her to relive some of her best memories with Joan, while also sharing them with her legion of fans. The Book of Joan is likely one of the few bright spots for Melissa right now.

A few weeks back she filed a lawsuit in Manhattan court against all the doctors present when Joan went into cardiac arrest during a simple endoscopic procedure, as well as the Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic itself. Within three days Dr. Renuka Bankulla answered back, insisting that she did not drop the ball in trying to save Joan.

Melissa's tribute to her mother will be available May 5. Do you see yourself grabbing a copy to read about Joan through her daughter's eyes? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
