Of course, no Saturday Night Live tribute episode would be complete without a bit of music from The Lonely Island. Last night during the SNL 40 special, Miley Cyrus and Kanye West weren't the only ones on hand with a bit of music - Andy Samberg and Adam Sandler got their due too, with a new digital short that focused on everyone's favorite SNL trope - the break.

Paying tribute to those who just can't hold it together in any given sketch, Sandberg and Sandler with some help from Chris Parnell and Bill Hader put together an '80s hair metal style tribute to the laugh on live television.

The glitzy production sounded like it was straight from a Van Halen song, with Samberg and Sandler matching the era with some truly horrific wigs. The two sang the song with notable snarls in their voices, adding heavily to the hair metal feel.

The song, called "That's When You Break" was fairly straightforward lyrically about the art of the break. Either it happens when you're too funny or it's a last second move when the sketch isn't working - call it a cheap laugh from the audience or a nervous tick.

Samberg and Sandler (and later Hader and Parnell) walked through classic breaks from every era of Saturday Night Live, from Rachel Dratch and Will Ferrell to Gilda Radner to Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen.

Some special attention was paid to the kings of the break - 2000s castmates Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz, who became known for their inability to hold it together during a sketch.

But those are the breaks.
