In a star-studded SNL 40, with appearances made by everyone from Taylor Swift to Paul Simon and Paul McCartney, it seemed like a bit of a surprise that the three-and-a-half hour telecast would dedicate a full segment to a Miley Cyrus cover of "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." But, surprisingly, the Bangerz singer killed it.

Wearing a white suit with embroidered red roses and her blonde hair cropped close to her face, Cyrus proved once again that she's more than just a wild twerker with a bizarre Instagram account, she's got one of the most killer low ranges out there.

Returning a bit to her country roots, Cyrus started out her performance of "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" low and small, winding around the lyrics with expertise. But she really began to shine during the first chorus, when she graveled her way through with deep vocals and a country twang that rivals any country star out there. Sometimes, you forget that Cyrus came from a Nashville party until she whips out something like this.

The performance was part of a tribute to Paul Simon, who was also on hand to perform "Still Crazy After All These Years" to close out the broadcast.

SNL 40 was filled with music, with Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Andy Samberg and even Ana Gasteyer and Will Ferrell's "The Culps" took on some of today's biggest hits, including "Uptown Funk" and "All About That Bass."
