After a strong showing in Detroit, the American Idol crew returned to Hollywood to determine who would make Season 14's Top 12. Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban were back in the mix as they would be choosing the final two contestants to advance. The competition is heating up, ladies and gents.

For some extra flair, the Idol producers decided that the singers would be performing the tunes from their first auditions. It was an advantage for some and a detriment for others.

Adam Ezegelian, Mark Andrew, Quentin Alexander, Alexis Gomez, Adanna Duru and Loren Lott were among the contestants hoping for a wild card spot provided by the judges. Alexander and Duru made it. The rest were sent home.

12. We want to like Nick Fradiani, but he's just not getting it done. He's like a less talented Chris Daughtry. His "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel was just OK. Fradiani still isn't dazzling anyone while onstage. His performances tend to be sandwiched in between better ones. J.Lo stressed song choice to him. Ditto.

11. "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul received an Idol makeover from Daniel Seavey. He took his stage performance to the next level, but that resulted in him fumbling some words. Connick took him down a peg, pointing out his inexperience. Danny suffered due to song choice tonight, but his voice is struggling too. His cuteness continues to carry him. Who knows what will happen to the youngster?

10. Sarina-Joi Crowe tried "Love Runs Out" by OneRepublic once again. She sounded like she was singing in the wrong key, which Connick was adamant last week about not doing. Perhaps her nerves played a role since she had to kick the episode off. It wasn't a terrible performance, but at this point in the competition, you have to nail your pitch. She's safe for now.

09. Maddie Walker's "Suitcase" by Gwen Sebastian was decent. She's still giving stiff performances, but her vocals are improving. And to make it this far means America really digs her. She's not the best vocalist, but she has potential. If she chooses a popular country tune, voters will lose their minds.

08. Joey Cook performed "King of Spain" by The Tallest Man on Earth. She's always exciting to watch. The judges loved it. J.Lo thought it was one of her better performances. She's still surprised to be up there, which is understandable because there are other singers with more pop sensibilities. But come on, girl ... you've earned it.

07. Qaasim Middleton went hard with "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder. He's so much fun to watch. Middleton is a genuine performer. We need to hear more vocals though. The man brought the funk, that's for sure.

06. Quentin Alexander "Royals" by Lorde. Judges picked him because of his artistry. It was a captivating performance. The pitch problems weren't too noticeable, and there wasn't a dry pair of eyes in the crowd.

05. Clark Beckham took on "It's a Man's, Man's, Man's World" by James Brown. He instantly became a favorite among the female voters (if he wasn't already). It's so effortless for him. "That, for me, was the vocal of the night," J.Lo said. Good call. Another singer that's at the top of their game.

04. Andanna Duru "You and I" by Lady Gaga. She made it because of her consistency. Duru unleashed the fury on the pop hit. Her talent is undeniable. Connick and J. Lo advised her to find more control for her performances.

03. Jax took on "I Want to Hold Your Hand" by The Beatles. The first half sounded more like "Hey Jude." Jax proved that she's dangerous behind the piano. She got up halfway through the song and the band joined her. NO. She should have stayed at the piano, but it didn't kill the performance. "It's very clear to see why America voted for you," Urban said.

02. Rayvon Owen. Wow. His "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry made everyone remember how amazing he was during the first audition. The singer absolutely killed the ending too. Owen is the male with the biggest star quality. He might even have all of the ladies beat too. "It was sick, great job," J.Lo said. It's really his competition to lose at this point because America loves him.

01. Tyanna Jones was marvelous with her rendition of "Wings" by Little Mix. She was really feeling the performance and the song. She's easily one of the top five singers. "If you move like a star, dress like a star, sing like a star, then you're a star," Urban said. She's had it all since the first audition.
