Both Jeremih and Flo Rida have had major successes on the Hot 100 in recent years, from "Whistle" to "Don't Tell 'Em" to "G.D.F.R.," and now they've decided to go at it together. Today (April 6), the R&B superstars teamed up to release a new single "Tonight Belongs to U."
Though Jeremih and Flo Rida tend to lean more toward the R&B side of hip-hop, "Tonight Belongs to U" is all EDM glitz and glamor. Heavy techno beats are all around this track, with blips and bloops from the computer taking the wheel right off the bat.
Though it seems like the computer may actually be the star of "Tonight Belongs to U," that honor would really have to go to Jeremih, who delivers one of his more emotional and reaching vocal performances on this track. Sounding equal parts passionate and mildly desperate, Jeremih soars high above the beats, giving the song some much needed dimension.
Lyrically, there isn't much to offer up, Jeremih is just really glad he found you. "Wasn't looking forward to heal this scar / But today I was riding down Lonely Boulevard / Wishing all wasn't lost, and there there you came," he sings with unbridled emotion in the opening verse, before declaring that "tonight belongs to you."
For his part, Flo Rida drops in for the final verse, giving a sing-songy melodic pop rap, that balances perfectly well with the rest of this party-friendly track.
Get ready, because the songs of the summer are coming up and they're coming at you hard.
