Soap fans were absolutely thrilled last month when it was confirmed that Rebecca Budig would be returning to daytime television. She was last seen on All My Children as Greenlee Smythe, an edgy character played to perfection and adored by millions of soap fans that have hoped that she would pop up again somewhere. Budig decided that the role of Hayden Barnes on General Hospital was worth stepping back into the fast-moving world of daytime television for and we can certainly see why.

She has been causing trouble from the first moment that she set foot in the fictional Port Charles, completely desperate for sex and love. According to an exclusive interview with Soap Central, Budig is still trying to wrap her head around who Hayden really is.

"When you play a character for so long [like I did on AMC], you kind of know where she's going and where she's been, her history, but I don't know anything about this character. I don't know her history, I don't know why she's doing what she's doing, so I've sort of had to make that stuff up for myself in my head. I'm praying the writers will show why she is the way she is at some point. I just feel like, how do you relate to her unless you know why she's doing what she's doing? I like playing someone that I wouldn't normally be. But this Hayden, man, I'm really trying to wrap my head around this one." explains Budig.

Jumping to a different soap isn't the only change in Budig's life in recent months. Last September, she and her husband, Michael Benson, welcomed their first child to the family. Little Charlotte has been keeping the actress on her toes at home as she adjusts to figuring out everything that being a new mom entails.

What are your thoughts so far on Budig's return to daytime and appearance on GH? Are you thrilled to have her back onscreen and do you think that Hayden is the kind of character that she plays best? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
