Following the death of Freddie Gray and the subsequent homicide ruling, Prince has decided to release a song for the City of Baltimore.

According to a press release, Prince's song is a tribute to "all of the people of the city of Baltimore."

The song, which "addresses the unrest in Baltimore and the socio/political issues around the country in the wake of a slew of killings of young black men," was reportedly recorded this week at Prince's Paisley Park studio in Minneapolis. It is unknown when the song will be released.

On Friday (May 1), Gray's death has been ruled a homicide and six officers have been charged with several counts, including second-degree depraved-heart murder, manslaughter and second-degree assault.

Twenty-five-year-old Gray was arrested on April 12 after he fled from police unprovoked. He was arrested and suffered injuries that caused him to slip into a coma. He died a week later.

It was later revealed that Gray's death was caused by "a severe and critical neck injury" while being transported "handcuffed, shackled by his feet and unrestrained" inside a police van.

Artists including Beyoncé have used their celebrity status to bring attention to the current ongoings in Baltimore. She urged her fans to support cleanup efforts for the city.

"People are hurting. Join us in supporting the NAACP to help in the cleanup efforts and provide housing, food and supplies to those affected by the unrest in Baltimore," she wrote on Instagram.

Others including Joey Bada$$ and Wale joined thousands of protestors in New York City and Baltimore.

Lauryn Hill, A$AP Ferg and De La Soul, among others, released songs last year in the wake of the killing of black teenager Michael Brown and the violence that followed in Ferguson, Missouri.
