Maroon 5 may think "This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like a Motherf*cker," but Adam Levine and co. are diving into the season with some heavy promo for its new single. Last night (May 19), as Sawyer Fredericks was crowned the latest winner of The Voice, coach Adam and his band appeared on the NBC competition to give the track its live debut, and it featured some new vocal techniques from the band.

What gives "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" an edge over other recent Maroon 5 offerings like "Sugar" and "Maps" is that the chorus takes the vocals down instead of reaching into Levine's falsetto. How is the new sound achieved? Through a megaphone for the high-reaching lead singer and plenty of backing vocals from Jesse Carmichael, PJ Morton and James Valentine.

While Maroon 5 played its soon to be summer hit, the visual effects reflected the bright neon V on the band's V album cover with illuminating '80s. Aviator sunglasses, convertible cars and women with bright red lips were animated on the screen, zooming by to the tune of the song.

In a night that also featured performances from The Voice top 20 contestants, Luke Bryan, Ed Sheeran and Meghan Trainor, Maroon 5 fit right on in.

"This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like a Motherf*cker" is the latest single from Maroon 5's new album V, following the release and promotion of "Maps," "Animals" and "Sugar." The track will appear on a re-release of the album, set to debut this summer.
