As previously reported, Jimmy Fallon is set to take over The Tonight Show next week, but might he also be heading back to Late Night? According to Vulture after hearing the news that Fred Armisen would join Seth Meyers on Late Night as its bandleader, Fallon solicited his former SNL castmate for an audition to play guitar in the band. "I gave [Fred] my e-mail today, and I said, 'I can play guitar!" Fallon told them. "So I have to audition, but I think I have an in. I'm always there for him, if he needs me. Absolutely. Whatever he needs."

All joking aside, it would be awesome to see Fallon come back to Late Night from time to time to jam with the band.

News broke of Armisen's gig yesterday when Meyers tweeted a photo of himself with the 8G Band, which features Armisen and guitarist Seth Jabour (Les Savy Fav), bassist Syd Butler (Les Savy Fav), keyboardist Eli Janney (Girls Against Boys) and drummer Kim Thompson (Beyoncé's touring band). As previously reported, Armisen will serve as bandleader and will run the band even while he is shooting Portlandia, which is returning for its fourth season on February 27.

Lorne Michaels also spoke with the magazine about the news, saying, "He's so talented, so we're going to figure it out somehow. And Seth won't be alone up there, which is what I care about. At least if [Seth] looks to his left, he's got a friendly face."
