Rumors were rampant earlier this year that David Bowie was looking for a way to bring The Man Who Fell to Earth to the theater, and now it seems he's booked Michael C. Hall to star in the lead role. The stage play will be titled Lazarus, after the main character in the film (slash novel by Walter Tevis).

Bowie starred in the the original film production of the tale, which was released during 1976. It tells the story of Lazarus, an alien who comes to Earth in search of water for his own stricken planet. Along the way he becomes a wildly successful businessman and falls victim to the temptations of lust and drugs...somewhat like a parallel Ziggy Stadust...who is of course just a parallel for Bowie himself.

Hall will step into the role for the new musical variant however. Most know him from his role as the title character in Showtime's Dexter and also from Six Feet Under, however he's also had success on Broadway as the lead in Hedwig and The Angry Inch, as well as starring roles in Chicago and Cabaret. Bowie himself will, alas, not take an acting role within the new production, but will collaborate with Enda Walsh (Once) to write the new script and create some new songs and arrangements for the current show.

Preview performances are scheduled to begin on November 18 at New York Theatre, while the official opening night is planned for December 7.

Keep an eye out for when tickets will go on sale, and for now take a peek at the original film trailer for the 1976 rendition.
