Alice Glass recently shared her debut single as a solo artist titled "Stillbirth" via SoundCloud. The first track to be released since her split from Crystal Castles, her latest song marks a new chapter in the former front woman's career. Admittedly inspired by her survival from an abusive relationship, her new song is emotionally raw and wrought with well-crafted dissonance.

As if a lyrical response to Glass' ex-band mate Ethan Kath's scathing remarks that accompanied Crystal Castles' recent singles "Frail" and "Decide," "Stillbirth" possess what Kath's latest lacks: emotively haunting instrumentation and honesty. A suitable choice for her solo debut, Glass' new song is more than than mere electro perfection.

Glass' release was accomanpied by a statement currently available on her website. "I want young women and young men to understand that this kind of treatment of others can happen where it might be least expected," she stated. "Even in environments that thrive on creativity and open-mindedness, that advocate artistic and counter-culture ideals. Sometimes people will use these things to camouflage themselves so that their abuse might go unnoticed."

Keeping with the thematic context, all proceeds from the track's digital sales will benefit the non-profit Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN).

Written and recorded with Jupiter Keyes their shared basement without the support of a label, Glass' debut marks a return to her DIY roots.

She also alluded to the forthcoming release of her next single, which she described as "a lullaby" and "sister song" to "Stillbirth." Whatever her next move might be, it is clear that her skills as a lyricist, for some fans, might trump those of her former band mate Kath.

As suggested by NME, this is undoubtedly "the start of what looks to be a very exciting and promising solo career."
