We've already seen Birdman make some bold claims in his extensive interview with Angie Martinez. In part two of the interview, the Cash Money CEO is adamant there is no beef between Young Thug (his "nephew") and Lil Wayne (his "son"). He even so far as to say he guarantees they will make music together.
In the public eye, the beef between Wayne and Thug (which Birdman denies) started in March, when Thug decided to name his upcoming album Carter VI, before Lil Wayne's Carter V had even seen a release date. Thug's surprising move came two months after Wayne brought a $51 million lawsuit against Cash Money.
Due to legal threats from Weezy's camp, Thug was forced to change Carter VI to Barter 6, which came out as a mixtape in April. Wayne went on to publicly diss Thug and Barter 6. Birdman barely admits that tensions brewed surrounding the Barter 6 release, though he claims, "that sh*t died quick."
Thug held the Barter 6 release party in New Orleans, in Wayne's home neighborhood of Hollygrove, where he was booed by Wayne fans. On the same night, Wayne performed in Atlanta, Thug's hometown. After leaving the venue, Wayne's tour bus was hit with gunfire, though no one was hurt.
A man named Jimmy Winfrey, aka PeeWee Roscoe, a Rich Gang affiliate, who appears in Young Thug's "Halftime" video, has since been arrested as the primary suspect, though, last month, an indictment named Birdman and Thug as possible co-conspirators in the shooting.
In between the shooting and the indictment, Wayne spoke out to make amends with Thug, saying, "I appreciate everything about it [Barter 6] if he's really a fan."
Weezy's above statement makes us think Birdman might not be bluffing, though that was before the recent indictment. Birdman blames the media for any purported beef between the two rappers, and is certain that we'll see them make music together.
"They gonna do music together. That's guaranteed...You can put that on my life."
As Weezy is still fighting to free himself from Cash Money, and Thug is facing charges -- unrelated to the aforementioned indictment -- of "terroristic threats" as well as drugs and weapons violations, we're not sure how Birdman can make such a bold claim. Still, we hope he's right.
