Pharrell Williams' first solo studio album in eight years is off to a "Happy" sales start in the UK. G I R L starts at No. 1 overseas, becoming the fastest selling album of 2014 in Britain.

According to The Official Charts Company, Pharrell's new album has sold 70,000 copies in its first seven days of sales in the UK, easily notching the No. 1 spot for the week across the pond.

This is the second massive charting success for Pharrell. Last week, the lead single from G I R L, "Happy," arrived at No. 1 for yet another, non-consecutive week on the UK Singles Chart. With that No. 1, he also exceeded one million digital downloads of the track, a massive success in the (relatively) small European country.

Other albums on the Official Charts are familiar fare for British fans. Ellie Goulding, Arctic Monkeys, Bastille, Beyoncé and Avicii all came in near the top of the chart.

Meanwhile, in the US, Pharrell's G I R L is aiming for higher sales numbers but a significantly lower charting position. According to Billboard, G I R L is aiming for either the No. 2 or No. 3 spot on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart and is projected to sell between 90,000 and 95,000 copies.

Rick Ross' Mastermind will hold G I R L back from the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. The Maybach Music Boss is projected to top the US charts with sales between 150,000 and 160,000. The unstoppable force that is the Frozen soundtrack may also be at No. 2 with possible sales of 95,000.
