Everyone knows that outdoor concerts can get a little rowdy but "Burn" singer Ellie Goulding probably never thought that a Summer Series show on a beautiful Sunday (Aug. 30) would incite violence so brutal that she would be forced to stop her performance and tell the crowd to stop fighting. Held in Bellahouston Park, an estimated 35,000 people attended the event to view headliner Calvin Harris, who frequently collaborates with Goulding, and John Newman. Saturday's line-up featured Scottish singer Paolo Nutini, Grace Jones and The View but there were no reported throw downs on that day, which only goes to show the rabid attention that the British singer has been receiving in the music industry since megastar Harris took her under his wing.
A lot went down in a short span of time in the one minute clip during her performance of "Starry Eyed," as per usual in concert fights when the crowd is intoxicated, excited about the performing artist or both. It began with one woman in a short mini-dress and black knee-high boots falling down in the center of viewers being stomped and having her hair pulled by several other scantily clad women. However, she wasn't the only casualty of the brawl as the crowd swayed back and forth and several other concertgoers were drawn into the fray and subsequently stepped on as they tried to break up the fight. In one shot, a fan appears to be holding a joint. The scuffle ended with two women pulling each other's hair as other concertgoers were held back and torn away from the fight.
Once Goulding was made aware of the fight, she reacted in a classy but firm way, reported by The Independent. She pleaded, "Will you guys look out for each other? If anyone falls down you help if it's your friend or not. No fighting. Come on. Peace. No fighting. There's no need for it. Look out for each other OK?"
The incident was reported by The Daily Mail as "shocking," but it really shouldn't have been a surprise as violence at concerts is as old of a tradition as the shows themselves.
