Warpaint bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg somehow found time between recording the band's self-titled debut album and an extensive tour surrounding it, to record her first solo album, right on!, under the simple moniker of jennylee.
Lindberg's band had a big year in 2014 as they were catapulted onto the national music festival scene for their minimalist post-punk music that's mesmerized fans since its release. Now, Lindberg is taking her own spin on the style.
The teaser trailer features little snippits of the tracks "never," "boom boom" and "he fresh," watch the clip below.
Right on! was recorded at Happy Ending Studios in Silverlake, California and is being distributed by Rough Trade Records. Lindberg co-produced the album alongside Norm Block and she received recording help from artists including Block, Warpaint's Stella Mozgawa and Dan Elkan, best known for his work with Broken Bells and Them Hills. According to exclaim.ca, Tony Bevilacqua, Kris Byerly, Katie Burden, Kirk Hellie, Jonathan Hishcke and Cedric LeMoyne made additional contributions.
From what we can hear in the teaser and what the press release confirms, is that Lindberg is retaining a lot of those same sounds forged by Warpaint. So expect some of those same bass and drum grooves accompanied by lushest vocals. Rough Trade Record's description of the album also mentions that she's experimenting with different elements of goth and new wave, which is welcome news as the genres are on the verge of a resurgence and Lindberg could be just the person to popularize them.
