Earlier this year, The Gaslight Anthem decided to pull out a stop after their fifth studio album, Get Hurt, by announcing they'd go on hiatus to explore other solo avenues of their music careers. Front man Brian Fallon hasn't wasted any time and is ready to debut his first-ever solo album, Painkillers, in the early part of 2016.
According to a press release, Painkillers will release via Virgin/EMI in the United Kingdom and round out later this year in Nashville as it is produced by Butch Walker, known for his work with Keith Urban, Frank Turner and Taylor Swift. "I'm overjoyed to be making this solo record," Fallon said according to NME. "And I can't wait to go out on the road with the new songs I have as well as to get to play the Elsie album [by The Horrible Crowe's, Brian's side-project] live again!"
A U.S. tour is already in the works with Fallon set to be backed by Gaslight Anthem guitarist Alex Rosamilia, his Horrible Crowe's band mate Ian Perkins and Molly & The Zombies bassist Catherine Popper, Rolling Stone reports. The tour launches on January 7 in Portland with an expected world tour following the album's release. The Gaslight Anthem dropped their fifth studio album Get Hurt in 2014 and played their last UK date in August at Reading Festival, just ahead of their indefinite hiatus.
The band issued a statement explaining their decision and their contempt of making another album "just for the sake" of it. "We'd like to recharge and take a step back until we have something we feel excited about rather than going right back to making a record just for the sake of making the next record," they said at the time. "We all feel this is the best decision we can make and it feels like the right one for us."
