At the Oct. 18 inaugural American Roots Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina, Eric Church brought on Allman Brothers Band guitarist Warren Haynes for a bluesy, country cover of The Band's legendary song "The Weight."

Church has covered the song a number of times in the past, according to Rolling Stone Country, but with Haynes on stage it was always sure to have a little extra flavor to it.

The group of musicians seemed confused at first as to who would take the second verse before Haynes came soaring in with his Southern country drawl. As soon as Haynes hit that first note, Church's face lit up in jubilation at the man's presence on stage.

Haynes also gave the audience a laid-back slide guitar solo and threw in some tasty guitar licks all throughout The Band's 1968 hit song. Watch the performance below.

Both musicians are North Carolina natives and just days earlier both were inducted into the state's Music Hall of Fame. Haynes contributed to The Allman Brothers Band but was also the leader of Gov't Mule and a touring guitarist with The Grateful Dead.

The festival also featured a number of high profile acts including Modest Mouse, Sheryl Crow, The Roots, Willie Nelson, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Chris Stapleton. Not bad for its first year.

Church is set for another onstage collaboration when he and Hank Williams Jr. open up the 2015 CMA Awards on Nov. 4 with the country legends' new single "Are You Ready For The Country" (an appropriate song to kick off the ceremony).

Haynes released folk-rock album Ashes & Dust earlier this summer and is set to play a string of dates in Florida and a show in Los Angeles before heading overseas for most of November.
