3D, aka Robert del Naja of Massive Attack, has composed the original score to a work of public climate change protest art created in collaboration with filmmaker Darren Aronofsky and French visual artist JR. Entitled "The Standing March," the installation piece is being exhibited this week in Paris during the United Nation's COP21, also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, and as Pitchfork reports the video projection aims to "remind leaders that the world is watching as they gather to negotiate a deal aimed at keeping global warming below 2°C."

Marches were forbidden in Paris following the attacks, so in lieu of a huge demonstration, the artists projected a video featuring the images of hundreds of people upon France's National Assembly building as over 25,000 official delegates from government, intergovernmental organisations, UN agencies and NOGs simultaneously descended upon Paris for this week's climate conference that is expected to draw 50,000 participants from around the world. The protest projection will continue to travel throughout Paris for a week starting December 1st at locations to be revealed on the artists' social media accounts.

In a statement of the project's website, the artists explain that the projection "represents more than 500 persons from different backgrounds united around the idea that the conference must end up with meaningful agreements between the countries. The protagonists, who joined the artists after a call for participation, have been filmed separately, rotating themselves on a green background and united to create a representation of humanity."

The artists have shared a clip of the project on their website, on which you can hear 3D's music. The video is less than a minute long yet gets the overall point across: as hundreds of different people become unified as one and turn simultaneously to look the issue of global climate change in the eye, they are also turning to watch policymakers as they grapple with the world's environmental concerns. Watch the clip below.

The Standing March

LIVE NOW ! I am revealing now the collaboration I have done with filmmaker @DarrenAronofsky. The Standing March, a major public artwork to be exhibited in Paris during the UN’s COP 21 climate conference. The video projection will remind leaders that the world is watching as they gather to negotiate a deal aimed at keeping global warming below 2°C. It is right now being projected on the Assemblée Nationale until 4am and tomorrow Monday night from 8pm until 2 am.For security reasons, marches are forbidden in Paris. But our art piece is a silent march. And we are marching, backed by the Assemblée Nationale, the heart of the French democracy. We must think about our future, the future of our environment and this is our answer to those who want to control our present.#TheStandingMarchWebsite: TheStandingMarch.comMusic by 3D from Massive Attack

Massive Attack recently announced a tour of Europe and the UK with the poppy hip-hop group Young Fathers early next year, Brooklyn Vegan reports. The trip hop pioneers have confirmed that the 28-date tour will be used as an opportunity to debut new material. The public is still awaiting an update regarding that "new material," but the tour dates are listed on the group's website.
