My Chemical Romance may be done but Gerard Way isn't, as he confirmed Monday. The fact that the vocalist launched his own website for the first time (gerardway.com) might have been a good hint that Way was reentering the game, but one of the first posts on that site was definitive in stating that Way had signed a solo record deal and is near finishing his first album.

"I am continuing full-steam into comics, art, and more importantly to some of you - music," he said. "I am pleased to let you know I am now signed as a solo artist to Warner Bros Records. My album is near completion, and you should expect to hear things in the near future, even today actually - with a brief snippet of what is to come. I am excited. It's starting again."

It may seem surprising that Way ended up signing with a major, but My Chemical Romance's best-selling albums (such as The Black Parade) were released on Reprise, which falls under the Warner Brothers umbrella.

My Chemical Romance officially announced its ending during 2013, a long time coming for a band that had last released an album in 2010 with Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, which itself had been four years in the making. The band's greatest hits compilation, May Death Never Stop You, debuted in March at no. 9 on the Billboard 200.

No word on what kind of music Romance fans should expect from Way's solo forays however. It'll be interesting to see if he continues to follow the progressive line his old band was on, or if he tunes it back to a more simple, raw sound.
