Mötley Crüe's final performance on New Year's Eve was suppose to be a blow out show at Los Angeles' Staples Center, but the performance did not go quite as planned as drummer Tommy Lee found himself stuck and suspended upside down on a roller coaster.
The band is known for the theatrical and Lee's drum kit roller coaster is one of Mötley Crüe's biggest and most infamous. Lee's kit takes off on a roller coaster, moving him all around the stage while pounding away, even turning him upside down during the solo. But for the last performance, there was a malfunction and Lee found himself stuck at the worst possible time.
Lee reportedly kept playing once he realized he was in no danger, just stuck like a scared kid on an amusement park ride. The road crew scrambled to get things literally and figuratively rolling and Lee had a few words for the crowd.
"It looks like the roller coaster is broken, well f--- the roller coaster," Lee said according to a Billboard transcription from the video. "Come on guys, help. Come get me. I can't believe this is happening on the last night. I knew something wasn't right when I took off."
Eventually, the drum kit was repositioned, Lee was able to climb down and the drum kit rolled along without its passenger, setting the New Year's Eve toast back about three minutes. The band kept things lively as guitarist Mick Mars launched into a solo when Lee began to climb down. No one was harmed and the show otherwise went on as usual.
It's certainly a memorable night for the fans that paid a lot of money to see the band perform for the alleged last time.
