R. Kelly isn’t convinced of Bill Cosby’s guilt in the numerous rape allegations against him, and he isn’t shy about saying it. The singer spoke out in a new interview on Cosby’s fall from grace and expresses that he isn’t entirely sure if all the women bringing allegations against him were actually assaulted. But Kelly has his own past with child pornography allegations, and may come under fire for his views on Cosby’s case.

“Well, my opinion on that is, I don’t know what happened,” Kelly said to GQ. “And when I look on TV and I see the 70, 80, and 90-year-old ladies talking about what happened when they were 17, 18, or 19, there’s something strange about it.”

Kelly further spoke would the publication about how his opinion might be different if Cosby’s guilt were proven by a higher power, “But God would have to do that, because God is the only one who can show me that. No man can tell me that. No woman can tell me that. And when you wait 70 years, 50 years, 40 years, to say something that simple, it’s strange. You know why I say that is because it happened to me, and it wasn’t true.”

Currently, the formerly beloved TV star is being charged with aggravated indecent assault, which counts as a first-degree felony, by the District Attorney’s Office in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He is also being sued by a multitude of women who have accused Cosby of raping them. He is currently out on bail for $1 million according to Billboard.

Kelly has traditionally been sensitive about his own past and recently walked out of an interview with HuffPost Live when it was brought up. His allegations about sexual abuse and ensuing lawsuits were mentioned during a Q&A session about his new album, The Buffet. The questions came straight from the audience and Kelly had earlier uploaded an impassioned Youtube video when sales of The Buffet were lagging.
