Belgium electronic rock band Soulwax have been flying under the radar for the past couple of years now, releasing very little music since their string of acclaimed albums in the 1990s and mid 2000ss, ending in 2007 with Most of the Remixes... They released a remix of Tame Impala "Let It Happen" last year, which signaled a potential return to form in 2016, though it may not be in the form that a lot of fans had hoped for. The group announced they were scoring the soundtrack to the new film Belgica, done by Oscar nominated director who previously worked The Broken Circle Breakdown.

Soulwax spoke about recording and producing the soundtrack where they donned different hats as fictitious bands and wrote different songs for different situations throughout the film.

"We recorded the original music being played in the club, wrote the music, rehearsed and recorded live on set the tracks played by the bands - ranging from a live kraut techno band, White Virgins, bequiffed psychobilly trio They Live through to hardcore outfit Burning Phlegm (featuring Sepultura's Igor Cavalera) whilst chanteuse Charlotte represents the other end of the spectrum with her neo soul pop."
