Zayn Malik is not meant for a "normal life." His recent interview with Capital FM is a far cry from his statement to the press back in March 2015 when he made the decision to leave One Direction. At the time, Malik claimed that what he wanted was to, “be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.” But that clearly wasn't the case.

As reported by NME, in the interview with Capital FM Malik said, “Being normal worked out for about two weeks and I got bored of it. I don’t think I could ever go back to being completely normal. I guess that’s something I accepted, that this is as normal as it gets for me.”

Malik has come out in multiple interviews explaining his decision to leave the band in order to pursue a solo career. He also reports himself as being estranged from his former bandmates.

In a recent interview with Beats 1 on Apple Music with Zane Lowe, Malik talked about his decision to leave 1D.

"I think I kind of always wanted to go," Malik told Lowe "From the first year really, I never really wanted to be there in the band. I just gave it a go because it was there and then when I realized the direction we were going in with the music, I instantly realized it wasn't for me because I realized I couldn't put any input in; I couldn't give my opinion on this or that because it didn't fit the grain of what we were as a band or what we represented."

His first solo single, “Pillowtalk,” came out on Friday (Jan. 29). His debut album Mind of Mine is due for release on March 25.
