In the ongoing saga of whether or not there will be a Swedish House Mafia reunion, the notion of such an event will always remain, especially since members of the former trio are continuously making statements about a possible return. Such is the case with Axwell and the comments he made in a recent interview with BBC's Newsbeat, where he noted that the possibility of a reunion is not to be ruled out.

Swedish House Mafia (SHM), the EDM mega-group, formerly comprised of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso, haven't played together as Swedish House Mafia since their farewell show in March of 2013 at Ultra Music Festival in Miami. As of today, Angello is pursuing his solo career (releasing his first solo album, Wild Youth, back in November). Axwell and Ingrosso have remained together, forming their own group called, Axwell /\ Ingrosso (releasing six solo tracks and working on their own album).

In the recent interview with BBC's Newsbeat, in regards to a possible SHM reunion, Axwell stated, "Obviously it's a great thing that we have done and we loved every minute of it, but right now we're enjoying this new ride and I think Steve is probably the same. I think we're all in our happy places right now." He went on to say, "Having said that, it would be stupid of me to say never [referring to the possibility of the three joining forces again]. Maybe one day something will happen inside of us that says 'boom', but it's more [likely to be] coming from us than at a festival."

This isn't the first time Axwell has mentioned the possibility of a reunion as back in November of 2015, he sat down with Zane Lowe of Beats 1 Radio and mentioned that they all think about it from time to time. Interestingly, about a month later, Angello sat down with Lowe and ultimately put the rumors and possibility of the trio getting back together to rest once and for all...or so we thought.

For the music world, it would be nothing short of an amazing gift to fans across the globe if the three were to reunite under the Swedish House Mafia name again, but at the moment, dispite all the interviews and rumors, it's nothing more than speculation and wishful thinking that they will perform together again. But there is hope. There will always be that tiny glimmer of hope that we will get to see the trio back together again, especially when Axwell tosses out a tidbit like that in an interview like he just recently did.
