R&B performer D'Angelo has cancelled three more tour dates due to medical issues, bringing the total of dates cancelled to five. His ailment is still a mystery, but the Merriwether Post Pavilion, the first venue where he cancelled a show (in Columbia, MD), said that the "Brown Sugar" musician was in the hospital. Monday's announcement of three more dates came with a brief statement that didn't do much to illuminate, but assured fans that D'Angelo would come out alright.

"[D'Angelo] "expresses his sincere regret due to this unfortunate circumstance," read a statement from his agent. "It's serious, but he should be OK."

D'Angelo was scheduled to perform in Chicago on Monday night before the announcement was made, and he also cancelled shows in Minneapolis on Tuesday, and San Diego on Saturday. Although no word was given about his scheduled appearance at the Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco on Friday, one would have to assume that it too will be cancelled. His shows cancelled last week, in Columbia and New York City, were axed with the artist citing illness, albeit no suggestions that might confirm whether the malady is the same that has now hospitalized him.

Fans excited for the tour have a legitimate cause for concern. D'Angelo pulled out of music for an extended period of time, and he hasn't released an album since "Voodoo" in 2000. He began playing live again on 2012, not with a tour but still the first consistent dates in a long while, including a gig opening for Mary J. Blige. Both of his LPs, "Brown Sugar" (1995) and "Voodoo" have been subject to critical acclaim. The performer was rumored to be back in the studio working on a third LP.
