Selena Gomez has released an emotional message to fans on Instagram, saying that she feels “unauthentic.” Her motivations behind the post were vague, as was the speech that she gave onstage, her eyes glistening with tears. Gomez just turned 24 this past Friday (July 22) and let her emotions flow.

“Tonight I felt extremely unauthentic, unconnected to both myself and my music,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’ve never really felt like my materials, wardrobe could define me. I act on a moment and fear something that hasn’t happened. I’m stagnant, I stay still and don’t just sit with myself first and ask ‘is this where I am, whole heartedly?’ I’ve always told the truth. I’m always true to my word, I’ve shown who I am but I need to rethink some areas of my life creatively and personally. Had to get that out.”

Gomez is an active celebrity on Instagram, and recently beat out her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, for the most liked photo on the site. The high number was achieved through a photo of her sipping Coca-Cola in an ad campaign for Share a Coke and a Song, which features her song “Me & the Rhythm.” The coke bottle in the photo features her lyric “You’re the spark," and received 4 million likes out of her 89.1 million Instagram followers.

Justin Bieber had the second most liked photo on Instagram, which ironically enough was a throwback photo of the two when they were dating. Her photo beat out his by 400,000 likes and she has also bested her ex in terms of number of Instagram followers.
