Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, was not impressed by Beyoncé's performance at the recent 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. The ex-politician referred to the "Sorry" singer's 15-minute performance as anti-police.

Giuliani made the statements during his appearance at Fox & Friends on Monday, a day after the MTV VMAs. The hosts of the show kicked off the interview with Giuliani by talking about current issues such as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's upcoming speech on immigration.

After a while, co-host Ainsely Earhardt opened the floor to Beyoncé's performance. The news anchor focused on the part of the performance where the singer's backup dancers fell to the ground with red lights beneath them. Earhardt also pointed out that prior to the show, Beyoncé graced the red carpet with the mothers of gun violence victims Eric Garner, Trayvon Marin, Michael Brown and Oscar Grant.

The co-host said that during the event, Beyoncé was sending a message about police officers shooting and killing black individuals. In response, Giuliana criticized the artist's performance. He also highlighted what he and the police officers have done for New York City.

"I had five uncles who were police officers, two cousins who were, and one who died in the line of duty," he said during the show. "I ran the largest and best police department in the world, the New York City Police Department."

"I saved more black lives than any of those people you saw onstage by reducing crime, and particularly homicide, by 75 percent - of which maybe 4,000 or 5,000 were African American young people, who were all alive today because of the policies I put in effect that weren't in effect for 35 years."

Beyoncé has not yet issued a response to Giuliani's statements but during a previous interview for the May issue of Elle, the singer pointed out that she is not anti-police. Instead, she is against police brutality and injustice.
